DESCRIPTION:Details\nDate: 5 October 2023 (Thursday)\nTime: 6:30pm – 9:30pm (HK time)\nVenue: KB132\, Knowles Building\, Main Campus\, HKU\nSpeaker: Dr. Jisun Jung\, Assistant Professor\, Academic Unit of Social Contexts and Policies of Education\, Faculty of Education\, HKU\nRegister Now\n \n\nClass Topic\nQualitative Research Methods I \nBrief introduction to the course\nThe course aims to provide students with a foundation in the theoretical underpinnings of qualitative research. The course includes the theoretical ways of thinking about social and educational phenomena— i.e.\, theories about the nature of social reality (‘ontology’) and how we can gain knowledge of social reality (‘epistemology’). It also provides methodological knowledge on developing strategies for qualitatively planning and designing the research.\nNumber of seats for observers/visitors\n6 seats (Enrolment will be on a first-come\, first-served basis.)\nPurpose of this Session\nThis session will introduce various qualitative research approaches and data collection methods\, including interviews and observation. Data analysis strategies in qualitative research will be briefly introduced. We will also discuss establishing validity\, reliability\, and authenticity in qualitative data collection.\nBiography of the Teacher\nDr. Jisun Jung is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong\, Faculty of Education. Her current research focuses on the academic profession\, doctoral education in East Asia\, and master’s education and employment. She has taught in multiple programmes at the Faculty of Education\, including undergraduate (BEd)\, taught postgraduate (Master of Education and Postgraduate Diploma in Education)\, and research postgraduate (PhD).
