Clinical pharmacology is one of the compulsory courses to be taken by BNur (Year 3) and BChinMed (Year 4) students. Clinical pharmacology encompasses the scientific study between drugs and humans. This is a broad field and includes the development of drugs, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxicology, clinical trials for the evaluation of drug efficacy, adverse drug reactions and cost-effectiveness, pharmacovigilance, clinical guidelines on drug therapy, pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics. The rational, appropriate and safe use of drugs in many different disease areas is an important part of the undergraduate curriculum for all health professionals.
