Course Assessment Reimagined: Strategies for Designing Engaging and Interactive Evaluations

Abstract
In this workshop, we offer a thorough analysis of how to modify traditional assessments into vibrant, engaging, and visually appealing experiences for students. Attendees will be introduced to communication-intensive assessments and will participate in practical training to design their own. Additionally, the workshop will equip participants with the necessary skills to adequately prepare students for these innovative assessments. Detailed instruction on the construction of effective assessment rubrics will also be provided. Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be armed with a diverse set of tools and strategies, ready to refine their approach to evaluations and cultivate a more engaging learning environment.

About the Facilitator
Dr. Michelle Raquel is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Applied English Studies. She is the project leader of the Communication-intensive Courses (CiC) initiative since it was launched in 2018. She was project manager of several large-scale inter-institutional language assessment and materials development projects in the Hong Kong tertiary sector. Her teaching and research expertise is language testing and assessment, academic English, and English for specific purposes (ESP) testing.
